Goliath Bot p1

This is a little project I'm working on with someone. It's a 50 foot tall robot.

I started with a sketch, then I cleaned it up, and then took it into photoshop for a very rough block-in of values. My end goal is to show a fully rendered illustration with this guy in an environment. So there will be a lot of exploration of value and color to help sell the scale of this guy. Of course, I'll add in little birds and some people on the ground, and also, a little bit of a background to help give you more things to relate its size too. The only thing I wish I could have done was to warp the perspective to show you how it would really look, but I know this is more of a concept piece so it needs to have clarity of visual information over "how it feels".

Deep Sea

Experimenting with brushes and process.

This is around 18x12" and I only had some sketchy lines down, no details or anything when I started inking it. I didn't have a plan when I started, just some guy slashing at something. It's pretty messy, but I had fun doing the texture.

Ink and white acrylic.

Hulk SMASH!

Oh joy. So, for some reason I'm very inspired to do these quick ink drawings and then see where they go in photoshop. With the inks, I started off way too careful at first, but loosened up by the end of it, maybe next time I'll have to do some warm-up inking beforehand to make me a little more bold.

I'm not sure who will be next, but I have a few characters in mind.

Punisher: Miami Vice

So I have to say I'm really rusty at drawing the superheroes that I grew up with. It's unfortunate, but I have to say drawing comics for two years left a pretty bad taste in my mouth (due to the stressful deadlines and general burnout). I've learned a lot from the experience, most importantly, I need to speed up.

I've been looking at this fellow's http://evanbryce.blogspot.com/ work for inspiration, very awesome color choices and energy in his characters... I'm not all about swiping, but this is just for a learning experience and it's one step closer to how I want my sequential work to look.

Wolvie

Experiments!
Inked with brush and colored in PS.

I tried to draw with the ink and just see what happens. Take things through ugly stages and try to make lemons out of lemonade.... er.... wait a sec.
